About this Event
Come and join the girls and wander around one of Leicester's galleries. What a great relaxing way to spend a Sunday.
Leicester is delighted to join the Contemporary Art Society’s centenary celebrations with a special exhibition of selected works gifted by the society. Founded in 1910, The Contemporary Art Society exists to further the understanding and appreciation of contemporary art and to develop public collections and collectors in the UK.
Over the last 100 years, the Society has donated over 8,000 unique and distinctive artworks to institutions in Britain. Leicester is delighted to join the centenary celebrations with a special exhibition of selected works gifted by the society. These range from Mark Gertler’s oil painting 'The Fruit Sorters', one of the earliest gifts made in 1924, to Peter Doig’s stunning 'Concrete Cabin', presented in 1996 and recently shown in the artist’s major retrospective at Tate Britain in 2008-09.
