Happy New Year
Friday, 9 January 2009 | Submitted by Tara
I've had a fantastic Christmas and New Year's Eve this year. The run up to Christmas was especially exciting with numerous events we'd organised getting me into the festive spirit.
The Christmas Colour at Calke Abbey was lovely. The people at Calke had put lights and decorations on the trees leading up to the church which gave it a magical atmosphere. The cold weather didn't dampen our spirits as we had some lovely hot chocolate in the café afterwards to warm us up!
The Ladies Night Out Club's first Christmas party on 12th December went very well with all of the members that attended having the opportunity to win a bottle of champagne and pamper treatment.
The Slug and Lettuce provided a large and fabulous buffet with a great selection of hot and cold food. At the end of night there was plenty left over for members to take home with them!
Christmas Day was different for me this year as I went to Tam's parents house instead of spending the day with my family; the first time I haven't been with them on Christmas Day. However, I did get to see them the weekend before as we all went along to a carol concert at Warwick Castle.
Everyone wrapped up warm as it was a particularly mild evening and stuffing ourselves with mince pies, roasted chestnuts and mulled wine helped to keep the cold at bay and kept us in good spirits. Yes I did have my singing voice with me and managed to get Tam to sing along to Good King Wenceslas !
On New Year's Eve we went over to Gotham near Nottingham to a friends house for a fancy dress party. The theme for the night was 1980's - 1990's and luckily I managed to acquire a prom style dress and even some arm warmers - anyone old enough to remember Madonna in the eighties will know what I mean!
Being the designated driver meant I couldn't drink but the night was still fun packed especially watching everyone else make a fool of themselves for a change rather than me! Another reason for not drinking was that I'd decided beforehand to make January a booze free month - nothing like waking up with a stinking headache to ruin one of my resolutions. Yes you read that correctly - I am giving up the wine, champagne and other alcoholic beverages! I can see Tam getting extra mileage out of Tara's Taxis this month!
Finally, I'd like to thank all our members for making the first year of the Ladies Night Out Club one to remember. It's always a little daunting setting out a new venture like Victoria and I have but it's been worth while knowing that people are coming to the club's events, making friends and having the opportunity to try something new each month!
We have some great events for the start of the new year and thanks to all the feedback from the questionnaires everyone completed at the Christmas Party, I'm hopefully planning the following events into the calendar:
Pole Dancing
Pampering treatments
Cocktail making
Belly Dancing
If you have any suggestions about the type of events you would like to see then just get in touch with me.
On behalf of the Ladies Night Out Club, Victoria and I wish you all a happy and prosperous New Year!
